Sheffield’s post-lockdown property surge set continue
A leading Sheffield conveyancing solicitors has seen a massive upsurge in enquiries since lockdown restrictions were lifted - and the recent stamp duty holiday announcement is providing the confidence for many more to make the move.
The team at Graysons Solicitors has been working flat out to accommodate the ‘pent up demand’ of the local housing sector with the volume of enquiries already up nearly 20% from the same period in 2019.
The recent stamp duty holiday announcement makes the predicted housing market downturn seem even further away if their experience is anything to go by.
Caroline Murray (pictured inset), who worked through the last property crash in 2008 and is head of the property team at Graysons, said: “Rightmove recently released figures that point to a 1.9% increase in house prices since the market went into lockdown in March which is very encouraging.”
Zoopla were already predicting strong house prices until the end of the year.
Caroline said the firm’s experience and understanding has allowed them to help ease the pressure for people who finally have the chance to ‘un pause’ their lives after lockdown.
“We are seeing a variety of reasons and situations leading to activity. I’m coming across families that have lost jobs through Covid-19. They are looking to downsize to ease the financial pressure and it's reassuring that we've the experience to help them navigate an unprecedented period.”
Many potential buyers who had offers prior to lockdown are actually finding themselves in a catch-22 situation.
Caroline added: “Offers from lenders are time sensitive and the mortgage that was on the table prior to lockdown may soon be no longer valid - that's why many people are wanting to move quickly.”
